Private Tennis Lessons in Sarasota: What $110 an Hour Gets

Private tennis lessons in Sarasota run $110 an hour at SRQ Tennis, and parents ask a fair question before they book: what does that hour actually buy? Coach Michael Boothman has answered it the same way for 30 years. You get a full 60 minutes of live coaching with a USPTA Elite Professional, a plan built around your player, and real numbers you can see by the end of the session. No basket of balls fed across the net for an hour. No filler.

What a private hour at SRQ Tennis covers

Every private starts with a quick read of where the player is today. Coach Michael watches a few rallies, names one thing to fix, and goes to work. The rate is simple: $110 an hour, 60 minutes minimum. There are no sub hour sessions, because real change does not happen in 30 minutes. If you book a 6 lesson package, the price is $570, which works out to $95 an hour.

The hour itself is built on live ball, not machine reps. That is the second of our Six Pillars, Live Ball Is the Method. Tennis is a game of reading spin, bounce, angle, and decision, and none of that happens off a machine. So the bulk of a private is real rallies with a coach who can change the picture in front of the player on purpose. You also get video when it helps, a clear focus for the week, and a short list of what to practice before the next session.

Why the price is what it is

SRQ Tennis is not the cheapest tennis in Sarasota, and we are open about that. The $110 hour reflects a coach with 30 years on court, a structured system behind every drill, and one player getting full attention the entire time. Compare that to an hour where a player stands in line and hits a handful of balls. The rate is the same kind of math we teach our players: pay for quality reps, not volume.

Private lessons also let us push accuracy faster than a group can. Our first pillar is Accuracy Inside Representative Conditions. We set a repeatable target and put it inside a live drill, then chase the 85/100 standard, which is 85 percent shot quality at 100 percent commitment. When a player can hit 8 out of 10 to a target inside a live rally, that skill walks onto a match court. One on one is where we can dial that in to the individual player.

What this means for your player

Confidence is the real payoff, and at SRQ Tennis we build it the same way every time. Our fourth pillar is Confidence Is Built, Not Given. We track real numbers across a private and we never inflate them. Last week 6 out of 10. Today 8 out of 10. That is not a compliment. That is a fact, and facts are what hold up at 5 all in the third set.

Privates fit a few situations well. A player who wants to fix one specific thing, like a serve toss or a backhand that breaks down under pace. A competitive junior who needs targeted work between group sessions. Or a brand new player who wants a confident start before joining a group at Potter Park or Pineview Park. Many families pair one private a week with group play, which is often the strongest mix for the money.

What a first private actually looks like

The first hour is part lesson, part assessment. Coach Michael warms the body in the right order, joints first, then activation, then the higher intensity work, because starting cold with a jog does not prepare a player to hit. From there he runs a few live points to see how the player moves, where contact lands, and what breaks down under a little pressure.

Then we pick one thing. Not five. One. Maybe the contact point is late on the forehand. Maybe the second serve sits up. We isolate it just long enough to fix the pattern, then put it straight back into a live rally so it has to hold up against a real ball. By the end of the hour the player leaves with a number to beat next time and one clear thing to practice at home. That is how a $110 hour turns into progress you can actually measure, not just a good feeling on the drive home.

Common questions about private lessons

Can I book less than an hour? No. We offer 60 minute privates only. Shorter sessions do not give enough time to warm up the body correctly, work a skill, and test it under live conditions.

What is your cancellation policy? Cancel with 48 or more hours notice for a full refund. With 24 to 47 hours notice there is a $75 fee. Same day cancellations or no shows are charged the full session.

Do you offer a discount for booking several? Yes. The 6 lesson package is $570, which brings the effective rate to $95 an hour.

Where do private lessons happen? On public courts in Sarasota, not a private club. No membership required.
