Why Winter Is a Great Time for Tennis in Sarasota
Sarasota's winter high usually sits in the 70s. That is not a small thing for a tennis player. While juniors in most of the country move indoors or stop playing from November through March, kids training with SRQ Tennis at Potter Park and Pineview keep hitting live balls outside, every week, all winter.
Consistency is the real advantage
Live Ball Is the Method only works if a player actually gets on the court often enough to read real shots instead of fed balls. A four month indoor gap resets a lot of that work. A player who stops seeing live spin, bounce, and pace in December comes back in April having to relearn timing they already had. Sarasota players do not lose that window.
The same goes for Movement and Conditioning in the Right Order. Joint mobility, then activation, then high intensity work only builds real movement patterns when it happens week after week. Skip a season and a player is not picking up where they left off. They are starting the sequence over.
What this looks like right now
Our fall 2026 to 2027 group season runs through December 17, with a short holiday break and no classes from December 21 through January 4, so families can travel without worrying about missed sessions. Outside that break, Rally Builders and Tactical Builders keep running outdoors at Potter Park and Pineview on their regular Tuesday and Thursday slots.
For families who want extra court time over the holidays, private lessons run all year. One hour with Coach Michael is still the fastest way to work on something specific before the next cycle starts.
Why this matters more than it sounds like it should
Confidence Is Built, Not Given. It comes from evidence, and evidence takes reps. A player who trains outdoors through a Sarasota winter walks into spring with three more months of real court time than a player who spent that stretch waiting for warm weather somewhere else. That gap shows up fast once matches start again.
It is also a quieter kind of advantage. Nobody is comparing December stats. But the players who kept training show it by March, in footwork, in contact, in how calm they look between points.
What it means for your kid
If your family splits time between Sarasota and somewhere colder, winter here is a chance to bank development time most other juniors do not get. If you are local full time, it is one more reason tennis does not have to be a seasonal sport for your kid the way it is almost everywhere else.
Want to keep the live ball reps going through the winter, or get ahead on footwork before next season starts? Check the program schedule or book a private lesson to use the season instead of waiting it out.
